Alex and the New Recruits Host Our Third Annual Strawberry Social
Alex, our VP, hosted Admiral’s Third Annual Strawberry Social at the Halifax office this July, and true to the Admiral culture it was a team effort. We had a group of twelve volunteer to help Alex out (last year it took four of us, just to give you an idea of how much we’ve grown) and together they hulled over 3000 berries, whipped up almost two gallons of cream and divvyed up over seven pounds of cake. It was a lot of fun and a great getting to know you exercise for our newest recruits who really stepped up to help make the event a success. The delivery of homemade strawberry shortcake to your desk in the office truly is an unexpected treat and an Admiral tradition. As one of our staff, Allura put it “it’s a great example of one of the things the company does that really makes me feel appreciated.” There were a few leftovers due to staff being off on holiday so we donated the extras next door to the Grace Notes Daycare where the children and staff also enjoyed an unexpected and much appreciated treat!
Golf Competition for Feed Nova Scotia
On July 8th eight staff who won the Admiral in office golf competition headed out to the Swinging for Supper tournament at Glen Arbour. Swinging for Supper is an event in support of one our staff’s chosen charities; Feed Nova Scotia. Laura, our Payroll Administrator described the event as fantastic! She said it was a beautiful day, the course was gorgeous, the dinner was delicious and the teams were a riot. While the Admiral team’s collective performance didn’t win them any honors, Laura did win a prize in the Women’s Longest Drive category and our teams walked away with some great door prizes as well. Everyone agreed it was an awesome day and they had a lot of fun in support of a very worthwhile charity. Feed Nova Scotia supports over 38,000 individuals with food security issues each month.
Halifax Office wins Best Places to Work in Atlantic Canada
The Halifax office has won its third top employer award for 2010; the Best Places to Work in Atlantic Canada. The awards were presented at the Four Points Sheraton in June.

We thought it was fitting that since our staff are what makes up a great place to work that the entire group gather on stage to accept the company’s award. This was the first time we have entered the Best Places in Atlantic Canada competition and with the ceremony being held in Halifax we were able to take a large group to the event to celebrate with us which was awesome!
2010 Associate of the Year – James Thomas
Congratulations to James Thomas, our 2010 Associate of the Year from everyone at Admiral Insurance. James received the prestigious award at the first N.S. Contact Centre Awards luncheon held June 3rd at the Quality Inn in Dartmouth. James’ manager Patrick Manning said that since becoming a member of the Admiral family in July of 2009, James has proven to be an exceptional employee. He is an individual who believes in leading by example, from his positive attitude to his ongoing commitment to learning everything he can in order to excel in his role and be a support to both his team and his department. James has been recognized on numerous occasions in the ten months he has been at Admiral winning Most Improved Sales Rep , and both Personality and Employees of the Month on two occasions. When it comes to personality James is one of the liveliest people in the entire office, and we would all agree that hanging out with him for just a couple of minutes can brighten your day. James was the chosen from amongst his peers for his positive outlook, his dedication and his outstanding contribution to both the sales department and the company as a whole. We are lucky to have him as part of the Admiral team and are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize his dedication and numerous accomplishments which include his progress from Most Improved Sales Rep to Top Seller in less than a year. Well done and congratulations James!
One of the 75 Best Places to Work In Canada
Our office has been named as one of the 75 Best Workplaces in Canada for 2010 which is a first for us having previously won awards as a top employer in the province and the region. Our People Services Manager, Amanda says the philosophy at Admiral is that happy staff make for happy customers and that “participating in a best workplace competition gives us a good understanding of what makes our employees happy.” Our ability to develop an award winning culture where our staff tell us they are happy to come to work in the two and a half years we’ve been in Halifax is quite a significant achievement and this award is one that we are particularly proud of.”

Admiral Game Night with the Halifax Mooseheads

The nine year old defenseman in my family tells me the company I work for is AWESOME and I would have to agree with him. This past month we held an Admiral Game night and handed out over 150 free tickets to our staff as a thank you for all their hard work and dedication. We also donated 50 tickets to local foster families who thanked us for the opportunity to take in a hockey game with their children. Over 100 of our own staff brought families and friends along to the Metro Centre for a fun night out and as the saying goes a good time was had by all. Our seats were great, the beer was cold and everyone was in good cheer. While the game was close, the Mooseheads lost by a score of 2 to 0 to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Despite the loss our staff agreed they scored big with a fun night out with the Admiral Team!
