Admiral Hosts Its First Awards Dinner

We held our first Company Awards dinner this month and the night was such a hit with our staff I think we’d have a mutiny on our hands if we didn’t do it all over again next year (I have already been asked to start planning). It was an Oscar worthy event, (so said our staff) held in the Atlantic Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Harbourview. And if I do say so myself (and I do) we never looked finer! There were tuxedos, beautiful ball gowns and some pretty saucy cocktail dresses (Eryn your dress rocked!).

Our hosts for the evening; Andrew and Holly, kept us all well entertained as we handed out 18 different awards to honor our employees. There were awards for everything from celebrating our staff’s personal bests to recognizing those who make us smile, embody the Admiral spirit, and are a fantastic support to their co workers each and every day.

I have to say it is pretty cool to be in the company of folks who stand up and cheer and I mean cheer like when Sid scored that gold medal goal the very next day, when a co worker wins an award. I have never seen anything like it at a company event…you don’t get that generosity of spirit just anywhere. I felt more like I was at a college football game than a company awards dinner, much less an insurance company awards dinner. I felt proud of where I work and honored to be in the company of such an awesome group of individuals.

One of the moments I won’t soon forget was when Kim, from our renewals department wove her way through the crowd as everyone stood in honor of her mom, Linda. The Tackle Any Challenge award was accepted by Kim, on her mom’s behalf, as Linda wasn’t able to make the occasion. Linda is truly an inspiration to us all and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room as Kim accepted the award.

Last but not least, we handed out surprise door prizes, with a winner at every table, and then our Sales team, who have been working secretly for weeks, showcased their latest collaboration; a U tubesque video poking fun at life in the Admiral office. It was a big hit and they have been asked for an encore performance at next year’s event.

With the prizes handed out and the flashbulbs finally slowing down, our staff headed to the dance floor and as they say danced the night away. The theme song for the event was I’ve Got a Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas and as the song goes it really was “a good, good night!”
